The love of a parent is meant to be deep. The love of a parent is meant to be unconditional. We are given these children to love, teach, and assist them through out their lives. We are meant to help them through every chapter in their lives, not just the ones we agree on. From diapers and feedings, to crawling and walking, through school and even through their emotions. We are meant to help them learn right and wrong.
Our children are not ours to tell them what to do (except the dishes and cleaning their rooms). how to feel, what god to believe in or who they are as a person. They are humans. They have their own way of thinking. Yes, we can guide them on how to appropriately handle their feelings and emotions BUT we do not know what goes through their heads, we do not know who they are internally, we do not know everything they are feeling. Just like people do not know what us as adults feel.
Loving your child should not be difficult, yet we have individuals in politics that are writing the most atrocious bills that will harm children. There are over 30 states that are currently trying to pass/have passed over 115 anti – trans bills. The majority of bills would affect transgender youth, a group that researchers and medical professionals warn is already susceptible to high rates of suicide and depression. So tell me… what is worse? Have a dead child because you couldn’t understand what they were going through and unable to accept them as they say they are. or a child who is thriving, happy and healthy?
As a parent of a transgender son born and raised in Texas, these bills would effect our every day life. In Texas they are trying to pass a very harmful bill that would effect trans youth and their family. Texas SB 1646 has passed committee and will head to the full Senate. It redefines “child abuse” to include gender-affirming medical care for trans children. Think this only effects the families of these children? You are wrong. Are you a Texas Educator, Texas Medical Staff, Texas Social Worker, Texas Scout Leader? If it passes, you will be REQUIRED BY LAW as a Mandated Reporter to report families and medical providers of trans kids to DFPS within 24 hours, or face prosecution yourself.
We have to fight these bill together. Contact your local officials. Fill out this form. Help our family and many other families in Texas and all other states to end these hurtful bills. Take a stand and save lives. We need your help!
We are currently in the process of leaving Texas and will be changing our residency to another state. A state that is supportive and focuses on equality. A state that will help me help my son be his true authentic self. I am thankful we are able to do this but there are so many families in Texas who are unable to pack up and leave. Let’s help them!
